Lake Michigan

Lake Michigan and Organisms
Lake Michigan is the ecosystem I chose to do. It is the third largest of the great lakes and fifth largest in the world. It is located in South Haven, Michigan which is in the northeastern US. The main organism is fish. Some other organisms are frogs, ducks, moss, and some birds.

Temperature
The top layer of water in a lake ranges from 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit. The middle layer ranges in about 45-65 degrees Fahrenheit. The bottom layer is the coldest layer and ranges from 39-45 degrees Fahrenheit. A layer of ice usually forms during winter. The ice blocks sunlight and prevents photosynthesis. Without photosynthesis, oxygen drops and many plants and animals die, this is called "Winterkill".

Resources
Some resourses from lakes are fish and water. People catch fish and sell them to fish markets. At the markets they claen them and are ready to sell. People take the water, clean it and then it is ready to sell.

Habitats
The habitats in a lake are open habitats and bottom habitats. The bottem habitats are where fish and other under water creatures live. Open habitats are where ducks and some birds live above water. Those are the habitats.

Kingdom
Catfish are in the Animalia Kingdom.
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Osteichthyes
SuperOrder: Ostariophyis
